When you get to Playa del Carmen, you will notice it is quieter than Cancun. This nice change of pace can be welcome after the vibrancy of busy Cancun.
However, there is still plenty going on in Playa Del Carmen and you could say it’s a mini version of Cancun with just as much character and spice.
Cancun has Zona Hotelera with sun loungers right on the beach and the funky downtown area of El Centro with plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Playa Del Carmen has 5th Avenue and the coolest beach clubs. Five-star resorts, excellent food, white sandy beaches, dreamy spas, and tourist attractions are in both places.
When it comes to nightlife, both Cancun and Playa del Carmen turn on the music. There are many bars and clubs for drinking and dancing.
You will see Coco Bongo, a popular club with live performances at both beach destinations.
Mandala and Senor Frogs are also in both locations. If you like bar hopping, Playa del Carmen is much easier with many drinking holes in close proximity to each other.
Live music is easy to find and there are often beach-themed events and festivals. Beach bars and beach clubs start pouring the drinks early because vacationers need no excuse to break the seal and many are open until late.
Drinks prices seem slightly lower in Playa del Carmen, but in Cancun, there are clubs with all-you-can-drink entry fees, which can make an affordable night for big drinkers.
It would be impossible not to have fun at Cancun or Playa del Carmen, which is why we urge you to spend time in both places.
You won’t regret it! Get travel insurance, pack all the supplies needed for the tropics like sunblock, medication, sunglasses, hats, a water bottle and swimsuits and before you know it, you will have your toes in the sand.
