About Bordeaux

Bordeaux is a small city built on the river Garonne near the Atlantic Ocean. It is the ultimate destination for wine lovers and home to award-winning wineries and elegant chateaus. Bordeaux is also the second most popular tourist destination in France and is fairly close to the border of Spain.

Weather & Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Bordeaux is from June and August. For fewer crowds and lower room rates, spring and autumn are lovely. It’s worth noting many wineries are closed to visitors in the fall from September as they are harvesting the grapes. To avoid this time if wine and cellar tours are going to be a highlight of your trip.

Where To Stay

There are so many wonderful accommodation options in Bordeaux, including lovely guesthouses, luxury hotels, charming bed and breakfasts, boutique hotels, grand mansions, and posh residences. As the French always do everything in style, the accommodation choices are all stunning. It’s not easy to choose with all these great places. Here are three properties we find inspiring.

Villa Reale is a 5-star property dating back to 1754. The boutique hotel with apartments is decorated in a style that blends modern design with French 18th-century style. The sauna is a welcome luxury, and so is the location, which is on the Place du Parlement (Parliament Square) in the Quartier Saint-Pierre.

Undo Hotel is inside a gorgeous 19th-century mansion with designer furnishings and luxury decorations in all the rooms and suites. Elegance, sophistication and a dash of quirkiness come with a Yndo booking and the attentive staff will take care of your every need.

Say bonjour to a classical hotel in an 18th-century building. This is Hotel de Size with 55 spacious rooms and a restaurant, bar and cigar lounge for guests to relax. A spa, hot tub, and sauna are perfect after a long day of sightseeing.

Things To See & Do

When it comes to museums, Bordeaux has a lot to choose from, and there is even a wine museum. La Cité du Vin is a modern interactive wine museum in a building designed in the shape of a wine decanter. The innovative design is just the start of the fun.
