Where to Stay

Manzanillo de Cuba is in a fairly remote area of Cuba where much of the agricultural production on the island takes place. This area has fields of sugarcane, tobacco, and rice among the lush vegetation, causing lodging options to be spread apart and sprinkled throughout the city. The benefit is a noticeably quiet place to enjoy the glistening water of the Caribbean with few crowds.

The lodging options in Manzanilla de Cuba are somewhat limited, and a little more basic that accommodations offered in some of the more touristy cities and areas of Cuba. Sprawling all-inclusive resorts will not be found here, but instead, there are many charming options that give visitors a true taste of Cuban hospitality.

One of these is the Guacanayabo Hotel, located close to the water and to several of the popular attractions in the city. The modest rooms at this hotel are equipped with modern conveniences like air-conditioning and satellite television, with a restaurant, pool, and bar onsite for guests to partake.

Things to Do

Son Cubano is a genre of music and dance that originated in Manzanillo de Cuba in the 19th century. It takes influence from African and Spanish origins and by the early 20th century had reached through the island and reached commercial success. While the genre has lost popularity, it is still celebrated in its traditional form in Manzanillo de Cuba where visitors can still dance to Son Cubano in local nightclubs today.
