History

Brisbane was found long before the state of Queensland. In 1823, the city was named by Surveyor General John Oxley, after the Governor of NSW, Thomas Brisbane. Before the European invasion, the Aboriginal clans, Jagera and Turrbal, lived on the banks of river Brisbane. The civilian occupation in the area started in 1824. By 1880, Brisbane became the main hub for commerce and developing architectural features.

After WWII, it brought growth in industry and became the 3rd largest city in Australia. Today it is an exciting and energetic city comprising various cultural activities.
