History of London

The Romans built the city of Londinium in the year 43 AD along the River Thames. In 61AD, the city was attacked and destroyed, but Romans rebuilt it and made it an important trading hub. 

In the 9th Century, more people started living in Londinium making it the largest city in England. However, it became the capital city in the 12th Century. London got proper recognition after the railways were built. From the 16th – mid 17th Century, the maritime trade expansion helped the city in developing further.

London continued to grow with the help of the foundation of the Bank of England in 1694. After the Industrial Revolution, many people were drawn to the city expanding it. By the end of the 19th Century, the population increased and London became a major international trade and finance capital.

Winters are generally cool with slight variation in temperature. You can experience little snow in winters. Spring and autumn are the best time.
