To come to Jamaica is to experience a calming retreat, punctuated by endless rainforests and coffee plantations. You can find hundreds of waterfalls hidden amongst vibrant greenery. And let’s not forget the long stretches of coastline framed by crystalline azure waters. This is a couples’ paradise, but for those traveling to Jamaica with kids, there are also plenty of activities the entire family will love.

Jamaican culture is the epitome of laid-back, where the locals are truly on island time. There is no rushing here – and with the warm breezes, it makes Jamaica perfect for that much-needed getaway. Not to mention the beauty of the Jamaican language.

Given all of this natural beauty, the island is small enough where you can stay anywhere and not be far away from all attractions.

What to Do in Jamaica

When you first fly into Jamaica, it will seem as though the entire island is blanketed in green. It’s almost a shame that most everyone heads straight for the beaches because there’s so much to explore in the interior. Head inland up to the Blue Mountains, the largest mountain range in Jamaica. The area is home to lovely mountain villages and some fabulous hiking, and on a clear day, if you hike to the top of Blue Mountain peak, you can see most of the island.

Just a few miles outside of Ocho Rios is the biggest and most spectacular waterfall, Dunns River Falls. At 180 feet high and 600 feet long, these falls are terraced like a great big natural staircase with small lagoons spread out among them.

For real adventure seekers, rent a 4 x 4 and go off-roading. Kool Runnings Adventure Park offers great bobsledding, something Jamaican’s are famous for, having represented the island in the Olympics. For Jamaicans, music is the soul of their being, and you can take part in this with a visit to Bob Marley’s old home, which has been converted into a museum celebrating his life.
