About Warsaw

When you arrive in Warsaw, Poland’s capital, you can expect to begin the vacation of a lifetime. The colourful historical buildings are magnificent and at the same time, the city is rapidly changing with modern technology and steady economic growth. Poland’s largest city on the Vistula River has a charming old town that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, many historical sights and a thriving art, culture and fashion scene.

Warsaw’s name in the Polish language is Warszawa. It is also the capital of Mazowieckie województwo province and almost half of the city is green with nearly 100 parks. There are many festivals, concerts, sports and cultural events all around the year, many held outdoors.

The public transportation system is efficient and affordable and includes buses, trams, taxis and metro.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Warsaw is between June and August. These peak season months of summer come with pleasant temperatures and many events and activities to enjoy.

Things to Do

Strolling around the cobblestone streets of the old town you will feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Medieval buildings were rebuilt after WWII. Rynek Starego Miasta’s bustling square is the perfect place to watch people go about daily life as you sip coffee in a fancy Polish restaurant. Wandering along to St. John’s Archcathedral, which dates back to the 14th century and these days is the venue for concerts in the summer.

You can also see The Royal Castle in the old town area. You can tour the royal residence in Castle Square with a guide or alone and there are often exhibitions, activities and educational events happening.

There are many interesting museums in Warsaw, but it would be impossible to see them all without booking the longest vacation ever. The Fryderyk Chopin Museum opened in 1954 and was dedicated to the famous Polish composer Frédéric Chopin. It is well worth a visit. Another great museum is the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews on the site of the former Warsaw Ghetto. Also, you can’t miss The Museum of King John III’s Palace at Wilanów. One of the oldest museums in Poland is an impressive collection of valuable art and artifacts, and the palace gardens are gorgeous.

A wonderful spot to take in Warsaw’s skyline is from the Gdański Bridge. The double-decker bridge spans the Vistula and connects the New Town to the Praga district. If you are there at night time, look for the bright neon sign at the end of the bridge.

For great shopping, hit the many malls, including Blue City Shopping Mall and Zlota Tarasy. Pick up some souvenirs like Polish posters, pottery, vodka and traditional sweets.

Every great vacation should have a major focus on delicious local food. Warsaw doesn’t disappoint when it comes to fresh and hearty flavours. For a unique meal, try Warszawa Powisle. The restaurant was converted from an old train station ticket office. In the daytime, tasty Polish dishes are served and at night, it turns into a funky club.

Jump around in Hangar 64. The trampoline park is in an old airport hanger taking up nearly 3,000 square meters with trampolines, acrobatic paths, sponge pools and skateboard space. What a fun way to spend a few hours!
