About Vancouver

Vancouver is one of the best cities in the world, period! Sure, you might criticize it for not being grungy enough, but that would be missing the whole point. Vancouver is a world-class city with its favourable climate and progressive vibes earning its credentials among the most livable cities in the world.

Vancouver City View

If not for the living environment, perhaps it’s the endless number of distractions the city will give you. Vancouver has a ribbon of beautiful sand draped on it with skiable mountains shielding from the sides. To get here, you can either catch a direct flight to Vancouver or come via other cities like Ottawa and Toronto.

Population of Vancouver

Vancouver is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada. Because of its favourable living conditions, it is estimated that close to 40,000 people moved to the city in the 12 months before the COVID-19 pandemics. These people would be joining about 2.5 million people to whom the city is home. With an area of 115 square kilometres and 5249 people per square kilometre, it is the most densely populated Canadian city and fourth overall in North America.

History of Vancouver

Vancouver started as a sawmilling settlement in the late 19th century. It was incorporated as a city and named after the navigator George Vancouver who explored the area in 1792. Just two months after it was incorporated, a fire raced down the whole city. Despite the false start it grew back as a port town, and later when the Panama Canal opened up, it became the mainstay of the region. Later in 1929, the two suburbs of South Vancouver and Point Grey joined to become Vancouver’s metropolitan area as we know it today.

General Weather

Vancouver is popular among holiday makers because it is the Canadian city with the mildest weather. Snow is a rarity here and is mostly ever seen in the mountains which surround it.

Vancouver Night

That being said, when it does snow in Vancouver, life in some way could get disrupted as the city is not well-equipped to handle such weather.  Another constant here is that rain is experienced for up to 170 days out of a year accumulating to 60-100 inches. Summers tend to be warm and pleasant with plenty of sunshine.
