About Cayo Coco

Located in the Ciego de Avila province in central Cuba, Cayo Coco is an island in the Jardines del Rey chain. Known for its white sand beaches, coral reefs, and native colony of pink flamingos, Cayo Coco is named after the white ibis, locally called coco (coconut) birds. The island is uninhabited by locals, focusing completely on tourism with its many all-inclusive resorts. It also has its own airport, Aeropuerto Jardines del Rey, offering convenient access when making travel arrangements.

About Cayo Coco

Cayo Coco is connected to the main island of Cuba across the Bahia de Perros (Bay of Dogs) by a 27km causeway. It is in the shallow waters near the causeway where you can see the flocks of wild flamingos, said to be among the largest flamingo colonies in the Americas.

Restaurants & Food in Cayo Coco

One of the benefits to the uninhabited island paradise of Cayo Coco is its lack of traditional restaurants, enabling guests to sample local cuisine from one of several “ranchons”. These open-air restaurants resemble huts with their thatched roofs and charcoal grills.

Lenny’s Bar & Grill (Ranchon Playa Prohibida) is one of the most popular ranchons on Cayo Coco. Their Seafood Special is well-known, and they have an unbelievable deal on a whole lobster dinner. Other specialties of the area like grilled chicken and pork and cuttlefish wash down well with a cold beer or rum cocktail.
