With a case of the winter blues and a yearning for some sun, spring break, it is never too early to start planning where to go. For family-friendly fun in the sun, there are many exotic locations to visit this spring break.

To get you started, we’ve curated a list of the top 10 spring break destinations. Get ready for a vacation that will renew your energy levels and excite your adventurous soul.

Jamaica

spring holidays Jamaica

If you are imagining a tropical island vacation, Jamaica might be your best spring break ever. Pack your suitcase for our favorite Caribbean island, where the sun is always shining.

There is no place like sunny Jamaica with a rich and diverse culture, stunning waterfalls, long stretches of white sand beaches and the friendliest local hospitality. Jamaica has us all hungry for more when it comes to delicious food. If you want to eat like a local, you can order Ackee and saltfish with green bananas and fried dumplings for breakfast.

You will soon discover jerk chicken, one of Jamaica’s most popular national dishes enjoyed any time of the day. While these exotic flavors might be an acquired taste at first, you will soon be wanting more. Some traditional Jamaican dishes are pretty spicy, so tell your waiter if you like it mild if your spice tolerance is low.

Expect a lot of time at the beach enjoying water activities in Jamaica. Also, this lovely Caribbean island has rainforests, mountains and rivers to explore. Reggae Falls is a well-known swimming spot, and you can also hire a local guide to find other waterfalls with fewer tourists around.

We can’t talk about Jamaica without mentioning the music. Reggae music originated in Jamaica during the 1960s and the chilled-out tunes quickly became well-known around the globe. The Bob Marley Museum and Rastafari Indigenous Village are interesting if you want to learn about Jamaican history and culture.

Spring break isn’t long enough, so you might find yourself planning a return trip later in the year. You need time for a romantic sunset boat trip, to go zip-lining, horse riding in the ocean, rafting, snorkeling, diving and hiking.

Plus, you need those blissful days lounging around at your resort, with many offering attractive all-inclusive deals.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica for spring holidays

When Mother Nature was generous in handing out the blessings when she came to Costa Rica. Lush rainforests, beautiful beaches and an incredible underwater world make it a lovely spot for spring break. If you love connecting with nature and being surrounded by culture, history and natural wonders, Costa Rica will easily win your heart.

Rise with the birds to see stunning sunsets and take a peaceful walk on the beach before your tropical breakfast, including local fruits and freshly-squeezed juice. Don’t worry if you sleep in because the sunsets are equally as inspiring.

There are plenty of lovely all-inclusive beachfront resorts and hotels to choose from, or a private mountain villa might be more your style.

Costa Rica’s wellness industry is well-known for being world-class with spas and retreat centers where you can rejuvenate and recharge your mind, body and soul. Many spas feature natural springs and mud baths that many say have healing qualities.

A heavenly spa treatment is a must-do experience for most travelers to Costa Rica. For thrill-seekers and active travelers. Costa Rica has endless action with white water rafting, zip-lining, horseback riding, hiking, diving and snorkeling to enjoy.

The food in Costa Rican is amazing. Many traditional dishes are rich in beans and spices which you might not have tried before. Of course, the cocktails are always cool and well-deserved when you are on vacation.

It’s not all beaches and forests in Costa Rica. Visiting the capital of San Jose will be a highlight of your trip. Take a historical walking tour, stop by museums and buy some souvenirs for friends and family back home. You might see a traditional festival and as well as shopping, the Plaza de la Cultura and the National Theater are must-sees.

Cuba

Cuba for spring holidays

This dreamy Caribbean island is often seen in luxury travel magazines and travel blogs and is a popular spring break destination. What is there not to love including old cars, eye-catching historic buildings, interesting culture, beautiful beaches and epic weather.

This sunny destination has many cultural sights, a happening arts scene, and memorable food.

For hiking, check out the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park. We recommend exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site with a professional tour guide who will ensure you are safe and make the whole experience more interesting.

Also, you will have someone to take your photo when you get to the waterfalls and viewpoints as you trek through the lush forest. Boat trips, water sports, luxury spas and lazy days on the beach are all part of the deal when you go to Cuba.

Cuba has a great selection of all-inclusive resorts with great spring break packages, including accommodation, food, drinks and services, so you know your trip costs upfront. Cuba is a beautiful Caribbean island loaded with UNESCO World Heritage sites and many travelers are choosing it for their spring break.

Cancun

Cancun for spring holidays

Cancun is a vibrant and beautiful city at the top of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. You have a vast array of luxury resorts on the beachfront of Zona Hotelera to choose from and many have sun loungers right on the sandy beach.

Or you might prefer to stay in the downtown area of El Centro. Both places have shops, restaurants, bars and interesting tourist attractions all around.

You can enjoy blissful days relaxing in your resort with all-inclusive deals, room service and onsite facilities and services such as swimming pools, spas, casinos, shopping, entertainment, and some even have golf courses.

You will be well looked after and pampered at the 5-star resorts that are all fabulously luxurious. You might never want to leave!

If you venture out, you can hit the white sandy beaches, go swimming or take a luxury boat trip to see Cancun from the water. Snorkeling and diving the Great Mayan Reef shouldn’t be missed as many say it’s the best underwater experience in the world.

If you are a beginner diver, you can probably take a lesson in the pool at your resort before venturing into the deep blue to play with the turtles and dolphins with one of Cancun’s many professional diving companies. There is even a non-profit underwater museum with 500 sculptures to see.

Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya spring holidays

Riviera Maya is to the south of Cancun and stretches from Puerto Morelos to Sian Ka’an Biosphere. There are several cities, including Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Akumal, which are all wonderful places to stay. It’s not easy choosing accommodation because there are so many tempting places and great travel deals, especially during spring break.

There are many exciting adventure activities to do, including zip-lining, hiking and ATVs and many thrilling tours, which can be a fantastic way to see the area from a local’s perspective. The Tulum Mural Tour is one of our favorites as you meet a local artist and the route is constantly changing to take in newly painted artwork.

Many people go to the area, especially to see Chichen Itza, the ancient Mayan archaeological site with stunning pyramids, temples and ruins. It is easy to make a day trip there from the stunning pyramids or stay overnight if you want to roam the ruins for a couple of days.

Eat delicious Mexican food with authentic spicy levels washed down by some intoxicating local tequila, take a Mexican cooking class and swim an awe-inspiring underground river in the Maya civilization archaeological site called Xcaret.

Nassau

Nassau for spring holidays

The capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, is the place many spring break travelers are heading to this year. All the best all-inclusive resorts are in Nassau, which makes a great base for exploring the rest of the Bahamas.

With over 700 islands to explore, you will find yourself enjoying boat trips, snorkeling and diving excursions which are great fun for the whole family. The kids will love Pig Island, with around 20 pigs living the beach life.

The happy hogs are taken care of by locals who are pleased with the tourist boost the pigs have given their island since it was featured on TV and social media. You can swim with the pigs or just take photos if you don’t want to get too close.

Buy souvenirs for friends and family back home at the Nassau Straw Market. It’s the place to buy handcrafted straw bags, hats, shoes, accessories and clothing. Port Lucaya is another wonderful spot to go shopping and make sure you allow plenty of time to get around the 9.5-acre market.

Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale for spring holidays

Fort Lauderdale, famous for its great beaches and boating canals, is a popular spring break destination for Canadians. It is the perfect place for solo travelers, families, couples, and groups to kick back and relax or discover fun activities.

Set on the southeastern coast of Florida, Fort Lauderdale has more than 300 miles of inland waterways, explaining why it’s often called the Venice of America. You are just as likely to get around by water taxi as Uber in this beautiful beach and canal environment.

There is plenty to see and do when you are not hanging out at your luxury hotel. The Strip is a great place for a fancy dinner with some shopping at the luxury boutiques. See the International Swimming Hall of Fame with an interesting memorabilia museum and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park for hiking scenic trails and around the lagoon.

When it’s time for a beer, you have an array of breweries and bars to sample some of the finest craft beer on offer. You will hear about the ale trail, which is a fun journey for beer-lovers to take or you might just like to find a watering hole near your hotel and become a regular for the duration of your spring break.

Many of these places have great food options too. The coffee culture is also brewing up a storm in Fort Lauderdale.

The Everglades is one of the biggest national parks in America and nature lovers will be on the lookout for alligators, birds and the exotic Florida panther.

For accommodation, you can find affordable hotels in the downtown area. Hollywood Beach has all you could dream of for more luxurious options, including big brand chains. Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is another nice place to stay and rooms are cheaper in this nearby village with a quieter scene.

Thailand

Thailand for spring holidays

If you can manage some time off work before spring break begins and maybe stretch your vacation to the end of March or even into April, you might like to fly to Asia and relax in Thailand.

With endless beaches, cultural attractions and markets all happening in the warmest climate you’ve experienced for a while, you will have a spring break that will make everyone back home envious.

Sipping cocktails at sunset, exploring temples, eating curries, luxury spa treatments, and attempting to learn the local language are part of your daily routine during a vacation in Thailand.

Head up north to Chiang Mai to see the hill tribes and experience a cooler climate or south for the beach life in Samui or Phuket. A shopping spree in the capital of Bangkok can be perfect on the way home, along with one final massage before the long flight.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas for spring holidays

Las Vegas is a perfect Spring break destination if you want an active, fun-packed vacation not too far from home. There is something for everyone with shows, casinos, shopping, nightlife, tourist attractions and hiking.

You might not instantly think of Las Vegas as a place to take the kids, but it’s actually popular with families. Many of the hotels are family-friendly with kids clubs, babysitting services, PG-rated entertainment and swimming pools.

The Mirage Hotel and Casino is always popular with families who love to see the man-made volcano erupt every night and visit the sea animals at Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.

The Excalibur Hotel and Casino is another accommodation option geared towards everyone, including families. Who wouldn’t love to stay in a medieval-style castle and place in the Fun Dungeon arcade after seeing The Tournament of Kings dinner show?

Orlando, Florida

Orlando, Florida for spring holidays

You know what’s going to happen! You will book into a Disney-themed hotel and spend a few days riding the coasters and spinning out on other rides between eating popcorn and meeting all your favorite Disney characters. It is fun for all the family at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

When your day passes, you have the famous Florida beaches to explore and plenty of shopping, dining and cultural experiences to enjoy. Check out the Kennedy Space Center, The Hemingway Home and Museum and the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument too.

There is so much to see and do with entertainment for the whole family in Orlando.

If you didn’t get enough of a theme park fix, you have Epcot, Magic Kingdom Park, Universal Orlando Resort and LEGOLAND Florida Resort to see.

With lots of all-inclusive deals, wonderful tourist attractions and plenty of sunshine, any of these destinations are perfect for spring break. Do you return to a place you know you love or explore a new location? The options are endless and you are in charge of creating vacation memories that will last a lifetime.

If you are looking for the most affordable destination for your spring break, places in America can seem to be the cheapest at first. But when you break down the total cost, including food, drinks and entertainment, Caribbean Islands can often come in at a similar or lower price.

As with any vacation, you can crunch the numbers and fit your budget by finding cheap eats, seeing free sights and attractions or booking accommodation out of the main tourist areas. Make sure your passport is up to date because your vacation mode is about to be on!
