While it is easy to see the blue ocean from many places in Los Cabos, there is only one good place for swimming, and that is Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas. Other areas are considered dangerous for swimming with solid rips, big waves and steep ocean floor drop-offs, making them unsuitable for even the best swimmers.
Also known as Playa El Medano or Dune Beach, Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas goes from the harbor’s east side and along Cabo San Lucas Bay to Villa del Palmar. Many bars, restaurants and resorts make it a great place to stay if you like the beach life. You can spend your days swimming, kayaking, parasailing and jet skiing.
On the sand, there are volleyball, beach parties, vendors selling souvenirs and often fun events to enjoy. There is always something going on at Medano Beach.
You can catch a water taxi from here to see Land’s End Arch and Lover’s Beach. This amazing rock formation is a well-known natural landmark that is very photogenic. Lover’s Beach is nearby and also a place you can dip your toes in the ocean, although it’s not as great for swimming as Medano Beach.
Of course, if you love swimming in the ocean, another way is by taking a boat trip. Nothing is more fun than jumping off the side of the boat, swimming around with the tropical fish, and maybe snorkeling. There are many group trips and you can also charter a boat privately if you have a budget and a group of people for a more exclusive experience.
The advantages of a private charter are many, including the freedom to come and go as you please, being together with people you know and sailing around the areas you are most interested in under the guidance of your caption and crew. While it might seem like a grand idea, if you are traveling as part of a group, it can be a similar price per person as a group tour would be.
