If you are a parent planning a family vacation, the choice of the resort can make or break a holiday. Make a wrong choice, and you could end up putting your family in a sketchy place, ruin the holiday for everyone, or worse, overspend on a site that doesn’t fit the needs of your family. On the other hand, if you choose well, your hard-earned holiday becomes relaxing for everyone.
While it may sound easy, a common headache among many parents traveling with their kids is finding a suitable place where the entire family will have fun—a place where children will be free to be themselves while not compromising their parent’s leisure. To enjoy the holiday, parents don’t want to be looking over their shoulders every time to see if the children are okay and having fun. A wonderful family-friendly resort has to have something for everyone while still giving the parent the peace of mind to enjoy their holidays too. Here are some of our recommendations for family-friendly resorts for your next vacation.
The upscale Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa on Montego Bay offers a family-friendly beachfront, and it’s just 15minutes away from Montego Bay’s Hip Strip. It provides all-inclusive packages, and for families that want affordable vacations with high-end amenities, this hotel fits the bill. When you walk through the lobby, it is hard to place this hotel in this area of Montego Bay. In typical Hilton hotel style, the decor is crisp with dashes of contemporary and tropical. From the stone tiling, color choices, and the design of common areas, you will immediately feel that everything has a family appeal in mind. The hotel is far from the partying scene which Jamaica is famed for. Therefore, it maintains a calm and rejuvenating environment suitable for family activities. Despite that, it is only 15 minutes from downtown Montego Bay. Likewise, when your vacation is done and you have to leave, Sangster International Airport is only 15-minutes away due west.
While the distance from town may be a challenge for some, the hotel is conveniently situated close to hip shops, restaurants, and shops—this means more fun close by. The rooms at Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa are what we have come to expect from a hotel with a Hilton name. The color pallets are beachy with a dominance of grays, whites, and soft blues. There is a sharp contemporary theme in all suites, with black furniture providing a vivid contrast to the stark white tiles. The rooms come in six categories, with the resort view suite being the entry-level rooms. Ocean views start with partial ocean view and oceanfront suites, whose only difference to the entry-level rooms is the oblique or direct ocean views you get. For more space, a one-bedroom suite or the high-end Caribbean Royal and Prime Minister suites would suffice. Bed arrangement in the junior suites is either a large king-size or two queen beds. All the rooms have amenities worthy of a four-star rating with minifridges, phone docks, large HD TVs, and free Wi-Fi coming as standard. Everything in the bathroom is equally well finished, with the only challenge being that they are relatively small.
While being in a heavy resort area is often a disadvantage for most hotels, the Hilton owns a vast stretch of prime beach. The beach is wide and with enough seating for close to 500 guests to enjoy and not feel cramped. Its biggest advantage is that it is strictly private therefore you can feel free when you swim or sunbathe as a family. Since the beach does not have breakwaters, hence the water is completely exposed to the Caribbean sea. However, the most distinguishing aspect about Hilton by far the most loved is the Sugar Mill Falls Water Park—it happens to be Jamaica’s largest. The pool complex has two large pools, but the one connected to the waterpark seems to have the most people. There is a lazy river, a giant 280-foot slide, a terraced pool, and a rope suspension around this second pool. Foodservice is of high quality with a menu, including exotic and regular foods for all kinds of vacationers. On-site is a nightclub that is most active late into the nights—don’t worry, you can hardly hear music emanating from there. When you have winded down on your mind, make a point of visiting the well-equipped gym or Soothe Spa to have a rub down.
The Royalton White Sands Resort is an upscale family-friendly resort that excels at providing a secluded residence in the heart of Montego Bay. Since it opened in 2013, this hotel has been a stylish getaway for individuals looking for family-friendly accommodation set in the most beautiful scenery. The area is relatively undeveloped, a far cry from the hotel chain filled beaches that characterize many of the Jamaican beaches. There are plenty of open spaces, sitting spaces, and the upscale fittings invite everyone to play, relax, indulge and socialize.
Once you get to the rooms, you will start noticing why it is a family-friendly hotel. Some furnishings from the fake wood floors and cheap fittings are designed to be breakable and easily replaceable. The furniture is also simply elegant, and this won’t be a deal-breaker if you imagine your children frolicking all over the place. The bathrooms are also designed with the same thought in mind. They have large rainfall showerheads to make your mornings (or rights) a little bit more refreshing. You also get toiletries, robes, and jet bathtubs to massage you after a hard day playing. If you love swimming, you can opt for a Swim Out Style Suite, which comes with a private dipping pool. You will also love the fact that there are exclusive family suites that are perfectly tailored to fit the needs of you and your family.
The family suites are tastefully designed to feel much like home, with options for bunk beds, bean bags, a patio entrance, and the opportunity for a separate kids’ TV. For more space, the presidential suite, which comes with a wet bar, dining room, living room, and half bath, will work just fine. Typical amenities for all rooms include soft sheets, stocked minifridges, Coffeemakers, HD TVs, and private outdoor patios.
All the rooms get 24-hour room service access, but the options can be slim depending on what time of the day it is. There’s plenty of gourmet and fine dining opportunities with restaurants offering Japanese, Italian, American, Jamaican, and other continental dishes. There are so many foods to indulge in, but the Café restaurant is popular for its coffee, gelato, and snacks all day. However, if you prefer comfort food, there are options for smoked chicken and pork. Some restaurants like the Italian, Japanese, and steakhouses are only open for dinner. For the best service, get a reservation, but if you don’t mind the long wait lines, you can wait for up to 3 hours.
The hotel has attempted to make the whole area kid-friendly. On-site, there is a kids club for video games, a water park, an arts center, and an AstroTurf’d playground for the kids to have a blast in. For the teens, a pool bar, adult tube slides, water slides, and other watersports are also available. The Royalton White Sands Resort does not have the sprawling properties of big hotel chains, but despite being compact, spaces don’t feel cramped at all. There are several bars, shops, tennis courts, and a hydrotherapy spa packed in the available area. The beach is perhaps the biggest letdown. Its small size means that it may sometimes be crowded. Day drinking by the pool is the biggest attraction for parents, with options for a martini bar and sports bar also close by. Movies and live entertainment make the evenings in true Jamaican fashion.
The Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall is an upscale family-friendly resort that offers all-inclusive packages for all food and drinks. What you get here is plenty of space for the family because even the entry-level junior suites have spaces of 500 square-feet and above. Being a former Ritz-Carlton development, the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall has every amenity imaginable for a family. To start with, there are eight restaurants with 24-hour room service options available. In a true one price for all style, food (buffet and a la carte) and drinks (regular and top-shelf) are part of the standard package. However, some restaurants may be closed when you visit, depending on the season and the occupancy rates. The menus comprise Jamaican, Brazilian, Asian, Italian, and American continental dishes.
The Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall is undergoing massive renovations to rid it of some dated fixtures and fittings. This means that if you get a room on the unrenovated side, you can expect to find dated furnishings and tired aesthetics. On the renovated modern wing—everything feels fresh, bright, and welcoming. These modern rooms have marble floors, clean lines, tasteful art, and creative use of color to complement the room’s furniture and sleek style. They each also come fitted with large HD TVs, fully stocked minibars, Bluetooth stations, and free Wi-Fi all through. The standard rooms offer a single-room layout with either two double beds or a king-size bed. The most oversized suites are the presidential suites, which offer a whopping 2,500 square feet of space. Unless you want the extra space, the other suites are big enough for a small family. Even better, every room at the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall Hotel showcases expansive ocean views, sure to make your holiday extra special.
The large swimming pool with swim-up bars is perhaps the highlight of the hotel. It is lined with beautiful blue tile that radiates cool vibes and gives the pool area its characteristic blue hue. From the tiles to the well-sculpted palm trees that dot the pool area, everything about this place screams holiday. If that is not confirmation enough of your holiday status, the drinks service at the Lagoon swim-up bar will usher you into the ultimate relaxation. Like most beaches in the area, this hotel’s beach has soft sand with a few sculpted sunbeds and umbrellas to shade under. The water is still, thanks to a breakwater installed by the hotel. With small catamaran sailboats and kayaking being also available, there are enough water activities to keep the whole family busy. After a day on the beach or the pool, you can wind down at the on-site Spa and fitness. The Spa offers everything from body wraps to massages, and as a spa member, you also get privileged access to the steam room, sauna, and members-only plunge pool.
When you take your vacation to Northern Africa, a trip to Labranda Targa Club Aqua Parc – Marrakech, Morocco, will be worthwhile for your family. This Three and half star resort is both romantic and family-friendly—what’s not love about that? It has extensive sprawling gardens and being just 10 minutes from Marrakech. You will be in for a treat. Located in a secluded area away from the old town Marrakech you will fall in love with the earthy tones, the generally relaxed vibe, and the fact that you don’t need plenty of cash to enjoy it.
Everything is eccentric with decorations, including leather decor, stone, well-manicured lawns, trees, and everything that is uniquely Moroccan. The large size of the property means everything is well-spaced (sometimes too much), and you don’t have to crowd around any amenities. Earthy tones (brown and beige) dominate the rooms’ interior design, but the tasteful dark wood furniture gives the resort its own charm. All rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, a safe and air conditioning. Likewise, it is possible to get a family-friendly suite with a kitchenette with microwaves, gas cookers, and a mini-fridge. Two restaurants—buffets and a la carte serve the best of Moroccan and international dishes all day. An outdoor bar is the watering hole of the resort as it serves many local and international drinks (regular and premium), which you should enjoy.
This resort is ideal for families because, for starters, children below seven can stay with their parents for free. Furthermore, there are four pools on the grounds with a giant water park that will surely delight your children. Marrakech as a destination has plenty more to offer for adults as well and certainly makes up for not being on a beachfront. If you are a sports fanatic, you will be pleased to have tennis courts, volleyball, sandy pitch football, billiards, and ping pong, and many more activities to be part of. A spa and a Turkish Bath are there to relax you, and later you could try some Moroccan Hookah.
Moon Palace Cancun is an expansive, family-friendly, all-inclusive, and luxurious resort located along the Cancun Riviera Maya tourist route. The resort is about a 15-minute drive from the Cancun Airport. With over 2000 rooms split into two sections—Sunrise and Nizuc, there is bound to be something for everyone.
It has spacious rooms across the board and is relatively consistent in comfort and style, with modern upscale amenities and decor. Key features within the premise are; free Wi-Fi, CHI bath amenities, smart TVs, well-furnished balconies, double whirlpool tubs, liquor dispensers, laptop-sized safes, and sitting areas. The bathroom on the property has showers, slippers, and bathrobes as well.
The Sunrise section of Moon Palace Cancun has a dozen bars and restaurants plus a gigantic pool with a FlowRider machine, swim-up bar, and water park for kids. It has four restaurants and three bars in the pool area alone. For a glimpse of an Amalfi-style-stained glass ceiling, you can visit the Italian restaurant La Gondola. Here is where guests play mini-golf course, rub elbows at the modern convection center, take cocktails at the Sky Bar or Noir nightclub and play tennis as kids run at an attractive club for the kids. The all-inclusive packages in Moon Palace Cancun cover tasty food at the buffet, 24-hour room service, and top-shelf liquor and non-alcoholic drinks at the bars. A kid’s playroom, daytime events, evening entertainment, and water sports are all-inclusive for your vacation.
The playroom club offers several designed and decorated rooms for different purposes, offering kids a buffet of imagination for entertainment. Some eye-catching spaces for a family in Moon Palace Cancun include the glamorous mini racetrack, the arcade, mini-theater, fashion runway room, and outdoor playground. A day pass is necessary for water games to access the waterpark at the adjacent The Grand at Moon Palace. Therefore, we recommend it for those who want to live in a more stylish and modern resort. The one downside to a resort on this side of Cancun is the fact that the sea washes up weeds, which may stink up the beach area sometimes—still, this place offers excellent value for anyone willing to overlook this drawback.
The Sunscape Splash Montego Bay guarantees you value for your money with its all-inclusive packages. It offers beachfront living and comfortable rooms that will make your trip to this tropical paradise a breeze—literally. On the grounds are four swimming pools, including kiddie pools, a water park with tons of supervised children’s activities, and a lot of sand that will get everyone tired and craving. While it is not the typical luxurious resort, the bulk of your days will be spent outdoors with the family.
The gates to Sunscape Splash Montego Bay are secured, but immediately you walk through them, the tropical holiday vibes are unlocked instantly. There are 308 rooms, all recently renovated to an acceptable standard for people looking for affordable holiday resorts. Interiors have vibrant colors, and the furnishings are tasteful, but if you want ocean views, you will have to pay more. For amenities, you get individual soaps, shampoo, and wall-mounted shower gel pumps, a fully stocked minibar, coffee/tea making apparatus, hairdryers, ironing apparatus, an HD TV, and much more in each room.
They do not skimp food either. At the Sunscape Splash Montego Bay, three restaurants serve American, Jamaica, Asian and Italian cuisine all through the day with plenty of options on salads and desserts. Since the restaurants do not need a reservation, expect long queues in peak hours—this won’t be a problem if you eat during off-peak hours or order room service. Apart from the restaurant, children get to play under the watchful eye of trained supervisors while you lounge in one of the four pools. Arts and crafts, movie nights, campouts, among other activities, are available so your children will be active all through. Adults can also take this time to indulge in tennis, beach volleyball, dance classes, or treat themselves in the spa, salon, and fitness center on the ground. For water sports, kayaking, scuba diving, and more are present.
To take advantage of all these, you can sign up for a club membership or just pay directly, although this may increase costs considerably.
Mention family-friendly resorts in Punta Cana, and most people’s first choice would be the Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana. While it is hard to flaw it as a business, some people may find its themes kitschy. The alternative to the Nickelodeon character-themed hotel is the Grand Memories Splash. Just next-door to the Royalton Punta Cana, this family-friendly luxury resort provides all-inclusive packages for families that choose it. Because it is not directly on the beach, the hotel has invested a lot in making its on-site features attractive. These efforts include having the largest resort water park in South America.
It is a place where both adults and children can have fun in the giant slides, wave pool, and many other custom-designed water features. However, for water activities, guests have to go through the Royalton to hit the sand at the hotel’s non-diamond club beach. The rooms ooze the modern chic as they all feel premium. Light enters the rooms through the massive windows and the dark furniture. Likewise, the color palette is chosen to take advantage of this light. There is a focus on natural finishing with natural fibers and whickers used on some furniture and natural wood, making up the custom handmade wall art. A basic room here is the Deluxe Room, which can accommodate four people. However, the star for most families is the Deluxe Family Jacuzzi Suite. Up to eight people can sleep here as they come with bunk beds. Ocean views are rare, but each room faces the pool or garden. The Wi-Fi is strong, but the furnishings of the rooms are the highlight. Coffee/tea making apparatus, a stocked minibar, and a phone dock are just some of the amenities to expect.
When you are not soaking in the pool or clowning on the beach, you could golf, sail, or indulge in some games in the game room.
In St. Lucia, Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa – Vieux Fort will treat your family like royalty. Despite being a romantic getaway for many, this all-inclusive resort offers the most luxurious beachfront living in one of St Lucia’s most quirky beaches. Being on the Atlantic rather than the Caribbean side of the country, it has some characteristics that make it unique. For example, sometimes seaweed may wash up to the beach, but not worry as the staff cleans it promptly. While it has a dedicated adult-only side, it is the family-friendly side that shines more.
Being that it is on an 85-acre block of land, land use is generous, with naughty glimpses of the surrounding islands through the greenish four-story buildings that make up most living areas. Some parts have undergone a recent renovation, but the age shows in some places in the hotel. The living areas are restricted to adults only and family-friendly. If you want to know how to do a feature wall, maybe you should borrow a leaf from Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa’s book of interior design. Even for the older suites, the only critique is that the balconies are small, but besides that, everything feels contemporary and airy. Modern decor and finishes bring it to bang up to date, apart from a few classic touches on the tiles and bathroom. Blue has been used delicately with white and floral prints. Rooms come equipped with minifridges, coffee/tea making equipment, and a TV with satellite reception.
You will have white sand for a mile with sunbed, palapas, and umbrellas facing the turquoise waters of the Atlantic. When you are not catching a wave, you are either kayaking, bodyboarding, or paddle oaring—the ocean is just inviting. Kite surfing is also popular, and there are local schools that teach it. On-site are five outdoor pools, outdoor/indoor spas, a waterpark, a lazy river plunge pool, and many more for guests to splurge on. One of the adult things you can do here is lounge in the heated tiki whirlpool while enjoying drinks from the resort’s many bars. The young ones can play supervised at the Kidz club while parents have a massage at the 11,000 sq. feet spa.
While some may consider the 250-room capacity small, the resort has several restaurants that even locals come to for fine dining. Here you can try Asian, Caribbean, Western, and comfort foods to your fill. Afterward, you can wash everything down with your choice from a comprehensive collection of top-shelf booze, beers, and wines. The place comes alive at night as well, and it’s unmissable.
If you have your sights set on Thailand, Aleenta Phuket Resort & Spa and its minimalist themes should be where wanderlust takes you. This 40-room boutique hotel is for those who want a quiet holiday, which Khok Kloi’s Natai beach provides. In a stark departure from the resorts we’ve looked at, this hotel is not a high rise building, and neither is it heavy on commercial tourism. It is meant to be a place to escape from daily life. The pace of life here is relaxed, and it delivers a front seat to the Gulf of Siam. Exotic and niche don’t get better than this, but this will feel homely just like owning a beachfront home for families.
The vast floor especially shows the home away from home vibe to ceiling windows that bring light into the dark-colored interiors. Color and contrast are provided by the collections of flowers, which become the focal point of the dark tiles, gray floors, and the couches’ neutral colors. Everything appears controlled, and this just heightens the sophisticated vibe of the place. The rooms are also an interior designer’s dream. Dark green feature walls provide a background to a uniquely chosen brown and white color scheme for the beds. Room types include Beachfront Suites, Ocean View Lofts, and two-bedroom Pool Residence Rooms. The cheaper suites are closer to the ocean while the expensive ones are more private and hidden at the back—strange logic, but it works. Each of the rooms comes equipped with a TV, coffee/tea making apparatus, kettles, stocked minibar, and safes. High-end rooms offer other unique things like different sinks, but given that ocean views are the junior suite, you know which we prefer.
The hotel has an impressive number of private or shared pools, depending on your suite. While the pools are inviting, the best swim spot is in the calm waters of the sea. The beach is lined with adequate seating, shade, and beachside service to lounge in when you leave the water. Restaurants serve a mixture of Asian and Thai food, while drinks service is provided on the swim-up bar or rooftop bar. Children’s activities are supervised with babysitting options for parents who desire some romantic time alone.
You will be instantly amazed by the sheer scale of Paradisus Cancun. The resort is located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, which is halfway up to renowned Kukulcan Boulevard. Paradisus Cancun is made of an interconnected pyramid topped with emerald glass on each, as homage to ancient Mayan civilization in Mexico. The largest pyramid at the entrance has an impressive broad cavernous atrium, a pond system overflowing with koi carp, and tropical vines flowing from the balcony with exotic vegetables in abundance. There are impeccably clean stones kept in its broad area within Paradisus Cancun.
Paradisus Cancun is an all-inclusive Mega-resort with the humidity of a tropical greenhouse that is nicely scented with a well-chosen aroma to give guests relaxation as they explore the shocking layout. The vastness of the property makes it easy to lose your way among the palm tree and ferns. An interactive touch screen information panel helps in navigating the property. On the outside, pool terraces lead down to an incredibly blue sea of the Caribbean.
The appealing resort attracts a wide range of travellers. It’s popular with families as it offers an enjoyable setting along with an exceptional stretch of the Hotel Zone beach. The property has super-equipped rooms that are very spacious, with distinct catering sections for different guests. Private balconies are furnished with a lagoon view, free and fast Wi-Fi, free minibars, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers. The impressive leisure facilities such as nine-hole golf course, water sports, Yoga, and flood-lit tennis court are notable for entertainment. The family services offered in Paradisus Cancun are extra-in-room perks and family-friendly activities. Its gardens provide a secluded ambiance and lush.
Family Concierge Suites avail an excellent selection of children-friendly amenities such as slippers and bathrobes for kids, turndown services with cookies and milk, and toiletries for children. As standard, it offers several drinking and eating options such as snacks, meals, international and local brands of drinks, and exceptional cocktails. The hotel has an on-site Catholic Chapel, which means weddings and vow renewals do happen here—in the numbers. People visit the resort all year round. However, during peak season, the limited furniture on the beach and the small pool size may make these areas feel cramped. If you want more space around the region, you may opt for Westin Lagunamar but beware. It does not offer all-inclusive packages. Nonetheless, you will enjoy the best of what Cancun has to offer with a good suite here.
For most people, Bali is a dream holiday destination. Therefore, finding a family-friendly resort like the Bali Dynasty Resort Hotel just takes massive pressure off your shoulder. As a tropical destination, Bali is an idyllic destination where plants and statues units create the perfect place to relax. From the moment you step into the Bali Dynasty Resort, you will be handed welcome drinks—just like that. Your rewards for coming this far start flowing. The ambiance is quiet, and the air is crisp, and as a result, those first few drinks go down faster than you would expect. This place has an identity unique to Bali, from a koi pond, wooden walkways, lush greenery, and granitic floor; everything has a level of refinement you can only find here.
The rooms are expansive and modern with bright colors and neutral colors. Each room comes furnished with a TV, minibar, coffeemaker, and air conditioning. Depending on your room choice, you may get a furnished balcony with views of the duck pond and pool. If you spend further, your suite may have a kitchenette and an outside hot tub. You can get bunk beds and a distinct sleeping area for kids if you go for a family suite.
There are three outside pools. Unlike many other hotels in the area, it doesn’t have direct beach access (maybe a good thing for some people since the second row is always cheaper). The beach here is not the attraction as much as the environment and the tourist activities are. If you want a beach, Segara Beach is just15 minutes away, Seminyak Beach 20 minutes away, and the stunning Nusa Dua Beach a mere 30 minutes away. Dining options range from comforts to fine dining, and the menus include Chinese, Indonesian, continental Asian, and some western delicacies. A vacation in Bali is the best time to try Balinese massages and natural treatments. Explore the saunas or head to the gym for your regular fix of physical activity. After a day exploring, you can rest assured that your family will enjoy supervised leisure. All through, there are activities including air hockey, ping pong, and more for the teens and a kids’ club with games and other supervised activities for the younger ones.
Much can be said about the Renaissance Aruba Resort and its luxury feature, but for those who know it, the location and the possibilities for activities are what shines through the most. Its amenities guarantee that the children will be meaningfully engrossed in supervised activities while its position in downtown Oranjestad puts you in the heart of the best shopping and nightlife. Split into family-friendly and adults-only sections, the resort thrives in offering high-end features. Starting with the rooftop infinity pools, casinos, Spa, and free WI-FI, this hotel has the kind of comfort to make you extend a stay.
Sunny Aruba has always been heaven to escape harsh weather for a few days, and having the classy amenities and features delivers a taste of the high life that will get you craving for the next vacation. We think it is a great hotel because it has all these features and can still serve families, newlyweds on honeymoons, the business community, and the adventure seeker.
There are certain things that you are sure are critical to your family’s happiness. Be it the location, the resort-quality, a suite of features, or the activities you engage in at your destination, you are best placed to judge these. Crucially, you should make sure that you get value for money and no matter how enticing the rate is, be sure to get what you want.
So, get browsing, get a booking, and head to your next destination.
